You’d often hear Dave before you saw him. That inimitable honking laugh, the way he talked so loud and fast.
The phrase ‘larger than life’ was made for someone like Dave who seemed so full of joy.
Picking up Aston from our house would start with an invite in for a cuppa, and end an hour or two later, several bottles of beer or glasses of wine down. We loved to hear his stories of his BMX days, his DJing, or just chatting about football, our boys, life.
At Joe’s barmitzvah in October, Dave started the night knowing a handful of people - by the end of the night he’d talked to most of the adults in the room. He was relentlessly sociable.
He was in pain - Covid had already taken and taken again the chance to have the knee op he so desperately needed - but that did not stop his determination to have fun, whether it was bopping from his chair when the music was on or beaming with pride at Aston, who has inherited his dad’s easy charm. That boy is special.
Dave’s death has devastated many of us, it’s too cruel that his children have been left without a dad, Elaine without her husband.
May his memory be a blessing to them.
RIP Dave
With love from Nicole, Michael, Joe & Ben
